Demon Slayer Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Demon Slayer has become a huge hit among fans. But was it good enough to secure a second season? Let's get into it!   

 

Demon Slayer or Kimetsu no Yaiba has become one of the most popular new Animes to date. With just one season, the Anime has managed to captivate audiences worldwide with its Shounen storytelling and fantastic fight scenes. We can easily see why boys between the age of 8-18 love it so much. 

Demon Slayer was produced by Studio Ufotable and is based on a Japanese manga series by Koyoharu Gotooge. The first season of the adapted Anime premiered on April 6, 2019, until September 28, 2019.  But, with the first season over, everyone is thirsty to know whether or not Studio Ufotable is working on a second season. There is so much information online regarding the new season but let's explore the truth. 

Will Demon Slayer Be Returning For A Second Season?

It's no secret that fans of the show are clamoring for a second season, pressuring Studio Ufotable into making a decision quickly. As of now, Ufotable has yet to announce anything regarding a second season. We are, however, getting a movie that will reportedly continue from the last episode of the first season. So the second season will most likely kick off from where the movie ends. We will discuss the movie more in the sections below this. In this section, let's discuss the possibility of season 2.

It is likely that it will be returning for a second season after the movie. Why you might ask? Well, firstly, there is no lack of content. Three volumes of the Manga were not included in season 1 of the Anime, and Koyoharu Gotooge released a 17th volume of the Manga on October 4th called Demon Slayer: One-Winged Butterfly. There is also no indication that Gotooge will be stopping anytime soon. And with an 8.75/10 from 528,746 votes on MyAnimeList, it is clear that it is a very loved show. 

Another thing to consider is the overall popularity of not only the Anime but also the Manga. In May 2019 the sales of the manga got to over six million, which is an ungodly amount of sales. We will be very surprised if the show gets canceled. The only major issue that can see the show canceled is the tight schedule of the studio. Ufotable is a small studio, and they may not be able to release Demon Slayer Season 2 as well as work on their other successful projects. And since the company usually works on one big project per year, we may either see the show canceling after the movie or a long wait. The show may also give the project to a bigger studio. Only time will tell.

When Can We Expect Demon Slayer Season 2?

Demon Slayer season 1 was such a hit that soon after the finale Studio Ufotable announced that a Demon Slayer movie is in the works. The movie is expected to premiere in Japan on October 16th, 2020. We even recently got a trailer.

 

But in regards to season 2 of the series, there has yet to be any official announcement. New seasons of Animes usually take quite a while to be released so we can end up waiting for years before we even get an announcement regarding its renewal status. As of now, our best guess is 2022. We will be keeping our ears out for any news about a new season. But, at least for now, you can look forward to seeing the movie.

What Will The Demon Slayer Movie Be About?

Demon Slayer: Demon Train Arc

The Demon Slayer movie is coming, and it has been confirmed that the director of the first season of the show, Haruo Sotozaki will be returning. The movie has been given the title Demon Slayer: Demon Train Arc or Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-Hen. As the title implies, the film will revolve around the demon train and will be a movie adaptation of Demon Slayer: Infinite Train. The film will continue after the final events of the first season, where we saw the main characters boarding the Infinite Train.

The show follows a young boy named Tanjiro Kamado. He sells Charcoal on the streets to help support his family, but one day when he makes his way back home after selling Charcoal, he finds that his entire family has been attacked and killed by demons known as "oni." Only his little sister Nezuko survived the attack, but she has unfortunately become a demon herself. Tanjiro then sets out to seek revenge on the demons by slaying all of them. He also tries to save his little sister from the predicament that she found herself in.
